Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

It looks like the velvet cakes have it - so I think it will be a very yummy February indeed!  I'm including a pink velvet and a red velvet recipe for you all to try out and enjoy.  Happy caking!

Pink Velvet Cake

2 1/4 C all purpose flour

2 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, softened (about 3/4 C)

1 1/2 C white sugar

4 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/4 C milk

8 oz white chocolate, melted

Pink gel food colouring

1. Sift flour, baking powder and salt into a medium bowl and set aside.

2. Beat butter with an electric mixer until smooth.

3. Add sugar to the creamed butter and beat until fluffy.

4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

5. Add vanilla extract and mix well.

6. Alternately beat in dry ingredients and milk - starting and ending with the dry ingredients.

7. Add melted white chocolate and mix until just incorporated.

8. Add a few drops of gel food colouring until the desired pink colour is acheived (usually 1/8 to 1/4 tsp is enough).

9. Bake cake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until done.  For cupcakes, bake for about 20 minutes.

People rave about Cakeman Raven's Red Velvet, so when I came across the recipe for his cake, I had to add it to my recipe book!  It is definitely very yummy and a lot easier than my original tried and true red velvet recipe. Enjoy!

Cakeman Raven's Red Velvet Cake

2 1/2 C cake flour

1 1/2 C white sugar

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp fine salt (like popcorn salt)

1 tsp cocoa powder

1 C buttermilk

2 eggs

1 tsp white distilled vinegar

1 1/2 C vegetable oil

1 oz red food colouring (McCormick liquid red food colouring works great)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1. Sift together all of the dry ingredients.

2. Put wet ingredients in a mixing bowl and beat together with an electric mixer at medium speed until all of the ingredients are well incorporated.

3. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until all of the ingredients are combined.

4. Pour the batter into prepared baking tins and bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until done.

I hope you all enjoy making these valentine's inspired cakes.

I am soooooo far behind!!!  I have not been on the computer much... baked 2 cakes last week for birthdays and REALLY need to do Valentines cookies this week but I am really not feeling it at all.  The knees are pretty sore after last week so Valentines day might have to be some chocolates for the kids!  Will have to try these recipes at a later time.  I have been winning the war with weight loss so don't need any extra around the house for sure!!  Can't wait to see what everyone does!!!

Hi ladies,

So tried this receipe last night and the cake came out great, moist and spongy! I ran out of red food coloring, but is the cake suppose to be REALLY dark red?

Also i've never tasted Red Velvet cake before, so how do i even know that it tastes right??  I don't really taste chocolate, neither vanilla...i'm confused!!! Any thoughts???

Hey Faith,

Is it ok to 1/2 the Raven Red Velvet receipe??  There shouldn't be a problem right?

I did it!  I made the Cakeman Raven's Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese icing.  I also, for the first time, made a buttercream transfer to place on top.  Everything came out great and most of all, everyone at the gathering wanted me to GIVE A YELL OUT "Delicious and it is a KEEPER!"

They were totally impressed with my transfer too.  Shhhh, so was I and my husband, LOL.

I was so excited that I didn't take a picture of it when it came up to cool temperature, sorry.  It was a beautiful red color inside as well.

This picture was taken right after it came out of the refrigerator.

So to read and see all of my steps - a guarantee laugh for you, especially the way I did my transfer, please feel free to visit my blog at this address:

Here is my version of the pink velvet cake.  I used white chocolate b utter cream for the filling and everybody loved it.  I hope I do not offend anybody with this cake, it was a fun cake for my friends 25th wedding anniversary and our Valentine party.  We had a pink color theme for the party and I added silver for the anniversary.

Thank you Jeri for your nice compliment and I certainly hope you are feeling much better by now.

I do believe all of us did a fabulous job on Project #5 and I thank each of you for trying it and sharing all of your creations.  Everyone is so different and did exactly what was requested.  Try a recipe and talk about it.   Another successful Project for everyone to read about and try in the future!

Our group is so much fun for not only our members but for everyone who reads our experiences and shares.  That is exactly our purpose; right?  Right!

Hi All,

Here were my velvet cakes - red velvet cuppies and a pink velvet valentine cake :).  I'm so glad everyone enjoyed these recipes! I'm so looking forward to the next one...

You all have done such a wonderful job!  I still have not baked anything since Tucker's birthday.  Hubby is still coughing and I am starting to think he might have pnemonia.  I was supposed to bake samples for brides last week and did not do it.  Am so ready for winter to be over and us to be healthy once again!!!  GREAT JOB everyone.  Hope I can take part in the next challenge!!!
