Now that is what u call a wedding cake that last longer then the marriage...
I wonder if it's made of fruitcake? :)

Yes, it is a fruitcake as it is stated in the article.

Amazing but yuck!  Glad there is history on this and no taste testing or competition for the best tasting oldest cake known!

I don't like fruitcake!

Wow !!!!!!!!!!
I was just trying to  be funny, but that explains so much.
What a family of pack rats to hang on to a cake for soooo long.  Hard to believe it held up so well.  My Grandma kept a full tier of my folks white cake in her freezers for 25 years, she moved it with her from house to house through the years.  I made their 25th anniversary cake and have pictures of one parent with a knife at my new cake and the other parent with a big ax with the wedding cake.  It held up well but was rock hard.  To add excitement to the huge open house party at their home, that morning there was a fire in the kitchen which gutted it and my cakes were in the next room.  So they were covered with a light layer of ash and the cake/icing shrunk a bit from the separator plate.  My folks souvenir gift was pens that looked like a match that said....Curt and Mavis, what a match.  Lit for 25 years.  Definitely a memorable party!  OK, I am definitely off topic, sorry!
