Halloween Cake Contest
Warning! This zombie cake might be a little disturbing to you if you aren't a fan of horror!
I made this cake for a very good friend's October birthday, who is a huge horror and comic fan. This was made to resemble like him, just zombie-fied. It was a surprise for him and he absolutely loved it.
The tombstone is red velvet cake covered in fondant. The zombie is red velvet cake covered in fondant. The fingers are all fondant and the grass/ground is fondant. The dirt is made from chocolate sandwich cookies (minus their cream layer) and ginger snaps ground up in the food processor. It was hand painted with gel food colorings mixed like watercolors.

I kind of just went at it with the tombstone support, winging it and it actually turned out very sturdy. I was surprised! I made an Instructable that shows more detail on the support if you want to check it out at Instructables site:

They have a Halloween contest on right now with different categories and I entered this one in the Food category. First prize is the exact Kitchen Aid mixer I just bought, heh heh, but could always use another! You should check it out.
Doing a surprise cake for someone for Oct. 30th and will enter that one too. It's going to be a bust of the him as the character he plays at the haunted house he owns and runs. I can't wait!
