For the past 3 yrs, I get this group together to decorate either cupcakes or a small cake. This year we went with cupcakes. Bake them yesterday, frosted them and they did the rest. They pick the designs with only a little help from me with color choices. I think they did a great job. Maria is 15, Sara 13 and Caitlin. If you will notice, the hats were Sara's favorite.

lol , that's funny Goreti ! , but they did do awesome jobs , and they are proud of them , as should be ! well done ladys , I hope they keep up the awesome work , I love seeing them do this !
There is only one problem. They didn't want anyone to eat them. Maria still has most of hers.
It looks like they all learned a lot in only one day!
awesome work girls !
No, Mai. It is a ball of fondant using a measuring spoon for the shape.
So; is it - as Katy suggested below - buttercream that holds the crown of the hat up?
I hadn't done anything with them this summer and I know they have enjoyed this in the past. Baked the cupcakes/filling on Monday. Got up early yesterday to make the finish the cooked frosting & frosting one batch before picking them up. While they were decorating, I made the second frosting & frosted those & filled the second batch. Spent most of the day on my feet and running up & down the stairs to get more supplies so was really tired last night but so worth it. You should have seen their faces when we took them home. They were so proud of their work.
They are great, Goreti. I could not imagine how you had time to do all this. Glad to know it was a group effort :o) What a fun thing to do.
Thanks everyone. They actually took the cupcakes home with them. I only kept 3 for myself and those we didn't decorate. Just had one this morning and it was yummy. It was lemon filled with blackberry curd & blackberry frosting. I did "cheat" a bit though. I started with a mix and doctored it. I wasn't sure how my scratch recipe would work for cupcakes. They also took home some Italian Cream cheese cupcakes.
so delightful. What is holding the crown of the hats up? Buttercream?
