Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I have been looking online at stand mixers and have NO clue which one to get. I would LOVE the Kitchen Aid mixer but I can't afford that right now. Keeping in mind that I not only make cakes but many other baked goods as well, I need a mixer with the different attachments.  It does not have to be huge, I do not have a business, so I don't mix in large quantities.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have. KA, but would never pay full price. Had it 4-5 yrs now. Hubby got it for me for Christmas. He paid $149, instead of the usual $250-300. He just watched for a sale. You might try EBay, or buy refurbished. Have a store here that sells KA refurbished, 1 yr guarantee for $130. I use mine all the time. Use the dough hook for bread making. Before that I had a Siemens, but I couldn't get parts or attachments because they stop making that type. Gave it to my daughter.... has a powerful motor & it's still going strong
That is the most important feature for a mixer...... a good motor. That's what makes your mixer last. I am sure other decorators will weigh in with opinions & advice..... :o)
Thats my problem I guess. I don't want to spend $150 on a crappy one when I could just buck up and spend $250 for the KA. I appreciate your help.... More research today.

I have a KA myself.  Yes they are a little pricey but I have had mine for more than 10 yrs now and it is still going strong.

Jackie, I have a Kenwood and I love it.  I would like a KA too, but again, the price!  My Kenwood was not cheap, but hubby bought it for me for a Xmas present and he benefits from it!  It's a Kenwood Prospero

I know a good quality mixer isn't cheap, hence the KA lasting 10 years. I'm going to check out the Kenwood one too.

Kitchenaids are $AUD759.95 recommended retail  or about $AUD680 discounted if you can find one in stock ...

$US250/$AUD 277 ?? ... don't we wish ...

I just came across this and thought I would share.  http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1597819/kitchenaid-artisan-5-qt-st...

It is $179.99 with free shipping but a $7.50 surcharge because of the weight.  If you have a Kohl's charge, use code Marching and get an additional 20% off.  I'm tempted to get another one.

I've got 2 KA mixers since Sears went out of business in our area, they had a close out on the one that is bigger and has the lever that lifts the bowl to the mixer. I hate that one, so I only use it if I am making big amounts, and still use my tried and true white one that the bowl unscrews with one turn. I love that one and it was the cheaper of the two.

Linda, my sister has the one with the lever that lifts the bowl too.  She hates it too.

It's awful, Goreti. You have to take the beater off before you can get the bowl off and it makes a big mess...I wish I would have saved my money. =O(
