Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I am working on a cake covered in buttercream.  I have never used the lacquer spray before and am not so sure that I can use it on a buttercream cake to be sold and consumed.  I know you can use it on gumpaste and dummies but of course, no eats those.

Would someone please be so kind as to share their knowledge of this stuff with me.  I tried to call the mfg. but never could get a live person on the phone as not one of their extensions answered the phone and, incredibly enough, the respective voice mailboxes were full......

Help please!!!

Well Patty
I googled and there seems to be mixed opinions. Some say yes to eatting it, some no. There was a member here who wanted her fondant purse shiny & she sprayed it with good ole Pam. Not sure how it would work on bc icing?? But you could put some icing on a overturned bowl, let it dry, then spray with Pam and see what happens. :o)

Thank you.  Will try.  At this time, I'm more worried with humidity.  I have to travel 60 miles with this cake.

I see you live in Arizona. Been there, hot, hot. Assuming 60 miles from where you are??  There is a great humidity resistant recipe on:  Make Me A Cake Me blog. Contains corn starch.  Check it out.  :o)

I had a bottle of this stuff and ended up tossing it out.  It smells terrible!  I do not think it was labeled for human consumption.  The stuff I had was from C&K.  Never used it because of the smell!

Thanks.  This stuff is made by Confectionery Arts Int'l. and is in a spray can.  Haven't used it yet so I can't testify to the smell.  Aso, I live in Arkansas.  Just thought I'd mention that for June.  Not trying to be a smartie pants just thought it might help for future reference.  Thanks to you both.

Hope it works for you!

Patty - I have used the PME edible glaze spray on parts of cakes that have been eaten, with no adverse effects.  It smells lovely - very strong vanilla.  Don't know if you can get it where you are, but this is what it is -

Thank you.  I will look that up too.

And it was seriously about 8-10 years ago that I bought it so it might be better now... I threw it away!
