I have seen many of you post that you use the flower nail trick? what is this? how do you do it?

You can use it in place of a heating core. You place the nail upside down in the center of the pan, Make sure that you treat it just like the pan & grease & flour it (or use cake release). What this does is conduct the heat to the center so that the cake bakes more evenly. Doing this will reduce the dome in the middle. When doing a large cake, you can use more than 1 flower nail.
We all have days like that! In my case, they seem to be happening more often. lol
Hi... I suffer from the dome problem and I thought the trick was to adjust the heat of my oven.
So, up side down means the nail head is upward whereas the pin is downward? Meaning I stick the nail in the middle of the pan after pouring the batter? Or did I get this wrong?

I find it easier to place the rose nail into the batter after it is poured into my pan. Well greased & floured. Small pan, 1 in the middle... as the pan gets larger, place more around that 1st one 2-3" away in a circle. They are placed in the pan turned up side down with the rounded end on the bottom, long screw type 'handle" sticking up. Works like a charm.
When you remove the nails from your baked cake, wash well, dry AND.... most important, rub with FOOD GRADE mineral oil to stop nails from going rusty. You could use veg, canola oil, but unless you wipe well, the oil could go rancid if you don't use the nail for a long time. That won't happen with mineral oil.
