Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi CWB people...

I hope you are having a good Easter long weekend.  I needed some help with some items that I can't figure out how to do.  I'm hoping for some ideas from everyone :D

How to make fondant:

1. Kale

2. Dandelion Leaves

How to do buttercream:

1.  Wheat grass -- this would be on the sides of the cake (like the bottom of this cake)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated....thank you!!!

Suggestions:

1. ruffle the edges like you would for a carnation - just a little more ..

2. do a leaf as for a lily of the valley - removing pieces to get the dandelion shape

3. use thinned/melted fondant to get the "smeary" look on the cake surface-use a Wilton tip #233/royal icing to pipe grass in front as a border ...

Wow

What a challenge Mizztry!!!   Must be a vegan/organic or vegetarian customer. My daughter lives on this stuff. Especially kale!!!  I put kale in my smoothies...... per my daughter's orders.

Ok.  suziq auzzi's suggestion for the the kale is a great idea. The wheat grass..... I would roll out either just fondant or fondant/gumpaste combo very thin.  Do 2 shades of green, one light, one dark. Take a sharp knife or exacto knife & cut strips of grass. Let it dry a little & join them together, a couple of dark with light & so on.  You can bend them to look more authentic.

The dandelion leaf, I would put a pic in front of me, lay paper over top and trace for a template. Then transfer that onto cardboard.  Then use that cardboard template to cut out your leaves on gumpaste.  You will have to use a very sharp knife with a sharp tip, again, like a exacto, to get nice clean edges.

Hope this helps.   :o)

for the wheatgrass can you paint it on using a small paint brush and green food coloring gel?  mix with some white and a little vodka.  hope this helps.

I agree with Faith if you are wanting the same look as on the cake picture.  It looks like it is painted on the sides using a water color effect.  Using the vodka with the americolor gels would work great.

The dandelion leaves... you could pick a leaf... make a template out of the plastic template stuff that you can get in the quilting section and cut them out with an exacto knife.

Ladies,

Thank you so muich for your help and ideas...good luck with me!! I have also suggested doing a salad bowl cake as an alternative...:D
