I have been using the Wilton Alphabet cutters for a couple years......I HATE THEM!!!!  To start, the font is pretty boring and used by most people.  Also, many of the letters do not allow for easy release of the letters and I find myself trying to do those letters by hand taking so much more time.

I would like to know peoples opinions on the best alphabet cutters for fondant.  Please keep in mind, I make my fondant from scratch.  I know there are certain cutters that don't work as well with homemade MMF.  I would like 1 inch and 1 1/2 inch cutters.  Thanks.

I have several sets of alphabet cutters.... The click sticks work good and are different.    I also have the FMM cutters in both script and regular styles and love them they are basic but I use them a lot.  The funky cutters are also great and I use them a ton too.  The trick to using them is  to roll your fondant out and leave it set for a couple minutes to dry out just a little OR add tylose powder to your fondant or mix your fondant with gumpaste or use straight up gumpaste.  The method I like best is adding the tylose powder.  Global Sugar Art has a good variety of cutters http://www.globalsugarart.com/search.php?q=alphabet+cutters&=

Thanks.  I ended up buying the FMM cutters.  Both the capital and small letters.  I had credit on Amazon and was being impatient.  I guess I made a good choice.  Thanks again.

Hi Mam! I also use homemade MMF for my alphabet. I use the letters from the letter molder. But I think the metal cutter would be best to use. Pls. use a little shortening on the molder so that you can remove it easily. Pls. see the picture attached.

Ken - I like the funky alpahbet cutters, more for look than anything.  I also have trouble getting the fondant out, until I tried putting the cutter with the fondant in, in the freezer for a short while.  Comes out a treat.  Also try using some petal base on your cutter before putting the fondant in - helps it slip out easy.

Thanks for the input.  I can always count on you Katy as a good resource.  My funky cutters should be here tomorrow.  So I can use them for my orders this weekend.  I'll let you know how they work out for me.

Thanks for the nice comment Ken.  I'm not an expert by any means, but boy have I learnt a lot from this site.  Hope the cutters work out for you - look forward to seeing the cake!

I saw Katy post to use petal base.  what's petal base?  I know we call stuff different in the states so if someone can tell me I'd appreciate it.
