Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi everyone,

Ive spent hours looking at nozzels today and the more i look, the more im getting confused !

Ive noticed that they all have numbers and letters. Are these standard ?

I have 6 nozzels at the moment that was a set, they have numbers and letters on them.

I bought an extra one a ' closed star rose swirl' to do the pretty ' open rose' look on some cupcakes.

Although, i think i bought the wrong one. I have tried it and i cant do it !  It just looks a mess so i cried and gave up :-(

I dont know what im doing wrong? Is it my buttercream or me ?!!

I would love to be able to do this! But also i need a large one for this giant cupcake.

Does it need to be a particular one, like ' open star'  or 'closed star' ?

I dont know which would look best on a giant cupcake?

Thank you for any help

A very confused

Lisa

What a wonderful job!  You should be very pretty at what you have accomplished.  Your practice paid off.

Thanks Goreti ;-)

Shouldn't make any difference at all Lis, no - as long as your consistency is the same, it will work a treat.

Lisa, Sorry about your granddad.  I will keep him in my prayers.  It is pretty tough going through something like that especially since you have been so close to him.  My prayers are with you and your granddad. I am sure that he knew you were there with him for that 20 minutes at the hospital.  Try to just take it one day at a time and to most importantly trust God in all things.  Hey, Lisa btw, your cupcakes look fantastic!!! Practice makes perfect!!! I knew you could do it!!!! Go girl!!! You got it!!!/Mary

Thanks Mary, we  have had to raise our voices at the hospital as there has been mess ups and lots of them. ( not unusual for the hospital he is in I have to say)

They are only now starting to listen. Hes not been with us in his head for a while but this is cause of the infection he is fighting. This fri ( when im doing this cake!!! ) hes got to have another op. He may not pull though but will be praying.

I'm going to practice once more, i think i will stick with the smaller nozz like in the picture and use the larger one for the normal cup cakes. Ive got to get the sugarpaste flowers and butterflies made too.

I didnt really want to do the same flowers that i did on my cake, any ideas what other flowers i could do ?

I haven't got petal paste so i cant wire anything and i dont really have many cutters either at the mo.

I only have petal cutters, two sizes that i used for roses but with sugar paste,i cant use wires or cocktail sticks to do them. Just thought something different with the flowers?

Thanks for any ideas

Lis X

Lisa if you have petal cutters, you can do lots of things with them.  I have just done some Christmas roses style with mine.  In white with peach or rose coloured centre blush.  You could do a similar style in whatever colour you like - they come in all colours.  Google Hellibore and you'll get loads of ideas.  Or just cut out, frill, vein and make them colourful fantasy flowers.

Good luck with Gdad.

Thanks for the ideas Katy, that sounds perfect. I dont have a veiner though, is there anything elese i could use for that ?

Thanks ;-)

What do you have in the way of tools Lis - perhaps there's something we can improvise with.....

Ive only got the very basics at the mo really, just the moddeling tools,2 sized petal cutters, 1 small ivy leaf cutter ( the one you press down to get the pattern ) 3 butterfly cutters, again the ones you push down to get the pattern.

Im thinking i might have to get a veiner. I havent got anything i could use i dont think.
