Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Has anyone else watched this show?  Wondering what you all think about it.  In the episodes that I've seen, it seems these girls bite off more than they can chew and end up frantic at the very last second trying to get it done.  I'd have a nervous breakdown if I worked that way...

I think you hit the nail on the head. It's like they what to do but at the same time they dont. Maybe it's just me. But it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds. What about Fabulous cakes? What do you think about that one?
I love what I have seen on Fabulous Cakes. While some of the shows that are on seem to me to be scripted, the Fabulous cakes does not, at least in IMO. I like that they are going to be showcasing different shops not jut a few. What did you think about that $15,000 cake those folks made for the ventriloquist (I can't remember his name)? I could set up a whole new kitchen with that kind of money!! Someday....

Another observation on DC Cupcakes... the first time you had trouble getting your product out the door (the Marti Gras mask that they had to take the door jamb off to get out the door), wouldn't you measure and make sure that doesn't happen with the next one? Seems they just made it with the boards that were to hold the Roller Derby cupcakes.

They must be doing well because they got their own show but I sure couldn't work like that.

My daughter watched with me last night and she said it seems scripted to her. I have to agree...
The whole thing seems forced, fake, and scripted. If they say Mommy one more time, I might scream. And keep the dang dog out of the van with the cupcakes! I don't think I can watch this terrible show anymore; 3 episodes was enough!
Fabulous cakes on the other hand, was entertaining. They were real, and they showed how much cake artists truly charge for these creations. Maybe the general public will watch this and stop balking when they hear what some of us charge for our time!
I guess they are scripted. Because even on Cake Boss when they take on crazy projects there is alot of "anxiety" in the air and these girls seem to be a little to mello. I dont like that mommie is every other word either. That drives me crazy. But like you said they must be doing something right because they have thier own show.

I've done that. When I first started baking the cc I thought what have I done. But as I went on knowing that they had to get done no matter what and seeing the finished project it was a blast. I would love to do it again. But I also like working like that. There is no time no room for error.

I've watched both of the shows and was interested in hearing what flavors they have created. Other than that it is too frantic for me. why would you take an order for 1,000 mini cupcakes at the last minute for Valentines day when it is the busiest day of the year for them? I think it seems scripted too, I've stopped watching Cake Boss for that reason, all the screaming at one another is too much for me.
I have started watching DC Cupcakes 3 times and have not finished watching it once. Just has not kept my attention long enough. I don't know what it is but just have not gotten into it that much... Cupcake Wars.... it's been ok... but not my favorite either. Each time it has been on I have had something that has just gagged me... like the one that broke up cigarettes and put the tobacco in her cupcakes EWE ICK.... that just made me ill. As for Fabulous Cakes... I did like the show. And in Vegas... you know everything is last minute and extra ordinary... over the top...That being said... I appreciate that they publish their prices for these over the top cakes... maybe people will start getting the picture what it costs to make some of these cakes. They always make it look so easy on TV... and you all know what REALLY goes into cake art!!!
Last minute orders...sure, but not 1000 cupcakes on the busiest day of the year. Even when I worked at the cookie store we knew when to say when! And these girls seem to take HUGE last minute orders all the time. Even the ones for the church were last minute. I don't think I can watch it any more with the frantic pace...even from my own living room it makes me nervous.

I wonder if they charged extra for the dog hair, when they let him in the back with the other cupcakes? eeeeew that was enough for me.
I am glad that Fabulous Cakes shows the prices because that is what the other shows have been missing. Our time is valuable and they must pay for it without asking "that much for a cake?"

i like how on Fab cakes you see how they too sometimes have problems along the way. Makes me feel better about the problems ive run accross in the middle of decorating =-P

and i agree, its nice to see it put out there on how much they charge.
I had a lady at work, who has alot of very fancy shoes, cars etc ..... ask about a cake, when i quoted her 50.00 for a 2 layer 10" with fondant and gumpaste work ..... i never heard a peep from her again

people are so cheap =-/
I haven't seen Fabulous cakes yet (grrrr)! It sounds like a great show! I have, however, seen DC Cupcakes and do not like it one bit! Too much drama and yes, very scripted! I was turned off by that, so I don't watch it. Blah! :-(
