Hello! I'm Babsie Abrahan, a nurse for 15years now, a wife, a mom of a 17 year old son, and since about 4 years ago, a self-taught baker/cake decorator. I discovered my love for decorating when I decided to make my 15th year wedding anniversary cake....loved to cook but not much of a baker then. My passion for cake decorating brought me to my newly-found love for baking. I am now baking carved, specialty cakes for weddings and all sorts of occasions. This site is absolutely a wonderful source of ideas, information and tips that would be helpful in improving my skills and appreciate being part of it!! Please visit and like my FB page at Cake Creations by Babsie, LLC and website at cakesbybabsie.com. Thank you very much!!

Hi everyone! My name is Joann Gottermeyer, and I joined a couple of months ago. Haven't put up any pics or anything yet - turns out I'm better at cakes than I am at computers! I've been baking for years for family and freinds, and since we moved to northern Illinois about 5 yrs ago, my little hobby has taken on a whole life of it's own. Happy to share tips I've learned along the way and looking forward to sharing with new freinds.

Oh no!! How awful!

wow Joann  you were lucky..  my wedding cake was put in the fridge while I was off getting ready , some bright spark put it up the back of the fridge where the water trap is..  all the moisture collected around the royal icing on the board and made it all soft.I should have thought of the fan..lol     and you are right June this forum is  'The Bomb'.  :)

Friendly site, lots of help & guidance. :0)

I'm a newbie and made my first cake about 2 weeks ago- since my recipes didn't work out like they should, this cake is a miracle it worked out! but it was a big hit for the birthday girl and those that joined in. :)

here it is:

Welcome newbies.  Aronna, have you tried making a mud cake?  I have recently made 2 different kinds, white chocolate & chocolate.    I didn't even have to use the mixer just a whisk.  I found them very very easy to make and the great thing is that they are best eaten 3 days or so after baking.  Gives you plenty of time to torte them and decorate.  If you are interested in the recipes, just let me know.
