Hi Renee, I made the cake for my mother the day before her birthday. I used fondant mixed with tylose to give it strength and that meant the petals dried faster and held their shape better.

How did you get the petals to "stick up and stick to the cake without sliding?" I am so curious about that and wondered how far in advance you made the cake?

Hi Faith - it is a small bowl shaped cake with a fondant peak (to form the center of the rose). I rolled pink fondant out thinly, used various sized circle and oval cutters to make the petals and secured them around the peak and down the cake going from small to large until I covered the whole cake. I trimmed the excess at the bottom and added leaves around the base. - hope this explains it!
