Yes this has all been very helpful, thank you!!! I may be hitting you up for more advice if that's OK. As I said earlier, I can use all the help I can get! :c)

yeah they do have you buy supplies but I basically use my 40 to 50% off coupons, till now actually and I figured I'll be using them anyway for future cakes so it's actually not that bad. I bought the large set used my coupon and still use it today..but again, totally your decision to take it... Covering fondant, you need to make sure that your buttercream has crusted or hardened. Also that it is smooth because a bumpy buttercream will be a bumpy fondant covering... and yeah you need to have patience lol. If your time your schedule right, you actually can just let it harden in the fridge while you take care of other things.... That's what I do so I don't just wait.... Hope that helped a lil'. Take care!

How much were the supplies they had you buy? I want to say the class they offer here is $30.00 but then they also have you buy whatever is on the supply list. That was a turn off point for me. I know that stuff adds up fast. I'm still considering it though. While I have you though, what are your pointers for covering a cake with fondant? I've done a few and they turned out OK but not exactly good. I think part of it is I need to have more patience. Are you suppose to let the frosting crust first?

Really depends, I learned the basics there like covering cakes with fondant. Yeah I've watched hundreds of YouTube videos but my instructor was still correcting me in how to cover the cakes. My instructor was good and since it was only $20, I just took it for fun. But to this day I still through videors on YouTube, so helpful right?!

How helpful would you say the Wilton classes really are? I've thought about taking them but with all the youtube videos out today, I wasn't sure if it was worth the time or money to bother with. Don't get me wrong, I need all the help I can get but I want to learn stuff like stacking and frosting. Not so much into the piping (although it couldn't hurt to get a few pointers there too I suppose. )  ...Stef

Awwww thanx! Took Wilton classes summer 2009 then started doing fondants Jan. 10., that's when people started ordering so I had practice hehehe.. But been doing cakes since I was a teenager, but they were not that great lol!

Brilliant! I hope I get that good some day! How long have you been caking?

It is risky! Hehe but I did put a stopper behind and in front of all wheels for transit and glued stoppers on both sides of the tracks that looked like rocks.. :)

Oh that's risky! I see there's no stopper at the end of the track! In any case, very cool!
