Yikes Tracy!  I've only just come across these.  No wonder they took an age - the models on top are wonderful.  Now see, if it's small, I call it a fairy cake, if it's big it's a cup cake, but that's just me lol!

Thank you Bettina & you are so right (& so funny).
Yesterday I was asked to make a 'few' (20 actually) 'simple' (yeah right) '50mm chocoform roses. Mmm. I've quoted for this lady before and I knew she wouldn't go for them once I told her the price of the chocoform. It's £5.50 per 150gm pack here. Once I'd explained it was pushing four times the cost of fondant and then I'd put my charge on top she nearly keeled over. Lol! Glad I didn't tell her how much I'd have charged I'd have been rushing her to A&E. It takes all sorts - I suggested she dipped a few strawberries in chocolate to top her cake. Champagne tastes and lemonade pockets.

Awww, just beautiful! I agree too, I would rather make a four tier wedding cake than cupcakes. Yes I know they are awesome when they are all done and set up, but talk about time consuming! People think that because they're only little cakes they should be cheap. I do point out that if you wanted to buy a plain iced cupake from the local bakery that you would be paying between $AUS2.50 to $AUS3.50 each! That makes them stop and think. Of course the unspoken assumption is that because you work from home that you should be REALLY cheap, in fact maybe you should just donate them because I (as a consumer, bride to be) am doing you a BIG favour by taking them off your hands. LMAO
I used to feel offended when people choked when I told them the price, but I don't anymore. My time, my talent, my baking. If you don't like the terms feel free to go elsewhere. Oooooh I sound such a hardcase, but that's come with experience. Oh look a dog with a puffy tail!! LOL

Yes, I totally agree with you. Cupcakes are more time consuming to make (& if I'm honest can get a bit repetitive to make as well - which is why I try to make a few different types when I do them).
Funny how a lot of people can't see the money in the work. Our local bakery sell kids cupcakes, which are just vanilla sponge, a swirl of buttercream and a few sprinkles for £1.95 each - so your price was really low. The same people however would think £600 reasonable for a 3 tier cake. Swings & roundabouts I guess. I'd rather make a whole cake too. Tx

So, guessing with Canadian $$, approx $5.60.  Worth every penny with the way they looked, and I am sure tasted.  Cupcakes are a funny market here.  Had a bride 2 yrs. ago I quoted $2.50 per= approx 1.75 Lb. sterling. She flipped out. Thought was very $$$.  There are 2 high end cupcake shops near me, and I guess cause that is 95% of what they do, they can pretty much charge what they want. Reputation, etc....  I have made wedding cupcakes twice, and unless I got paid big $$$, long day in May before I would do it again.  I would rather do a 3 tire cake, cause cupcakes are a lot of work, making, storing AND huge headache delivering.

Lol June.....we've caught up with you guys across the pond & call them cupcakes too now :D
In made a dozen of these as a gift box from the godmother to the child's parents. The tiny handmade sugar embellishments did take quite a while because I didn't use molds and made them up as I went along. Everything I do seems to be a first (I'm full of ideas and things I want to try). I charged £3.50 per cupcake. They were chocolate fudge and I scooped a little of the cake from the centre and filled with chocolate swiss meringue buttercream, topped with vanilla Fondant. I've seen the Tiffany style done before but wanted to give it a little twist with the silver gifts. It went down really well with my client & her recipient. (I did advise not to eat anything painted silver as I did go a bit overboard to make them really go bling). So pleased you like them Txx
