Update on piped gumpaste experiment

Let me begin by saying Patience is a virtue I do not possess.

I began the experiment on Monday of this week. It's now Wednesday. The piped tiaras seemed dry. I began removing them from the parchment slip on which they were piped. The pieces were weakend by me fiddling with the yesterday. So, a piece popped off of a couple of them, and one base area cracked off, taking with it the entire portion above it. I have one complete, uncracked tiara. For what it's worth, I think they all would've been successful pieces had I just piped them and let them be for several days.

It's almost as easy to pipe as piping gel and I'm sure it can be made thicker, if desired for a more rounded(less likely to flatten out...although, it would've been gorgeous with the flattened look had I placed the tiara inside the 2 litre bottle form to dry(so that the smooth area would be on the outside)).

Going to the trouble of mixing it, letting it goop, straining it ...unless I could make a few dozen in one sitting (totally possible 'cause they're as easy to pipe as chocolate or royal (royal is too fragile IMHO, to make multiple tiaras in advance)) and reduce my desire to "check it out", it ain't worth it.

If anyone is planning to give piped gumpaste a try, I do hope you share your experience as well as photos.

The ruddiness is detectable in the finished piece...it's somewhat porous. It's sturdier and more drying time than straight royal but definitely not as durable as straight gumpaste. It could be beneficial for those who may need more time to work and don't have a lot of hand strength 'cause it can be made easy to pipe.

jeri c, a mold sounds fantastic! Thanks for sharing the supplier! This was only an experiment and since my tiara templates were visibly accessible(I didn't have to go hunting for something), I tried it with them. Normally, I use the gumpaste with an extruder and a template. I'll definitely give the molds a looksy!

Machelle, there must be a formula to make piped gumpaste stronger somewhere. After piping 6 of them and only one didn't crumble, I would say what I did use was not successful. I will take a photo of the tiara still standing and post it later today.

Can't wait to see the pictures and how this turns out. I am one of those people that love to experiment and will take days to figure something out :). It took me 4 days to finally get my RI Christmas bulbs that I piped onto balloons right.I found that adding more egg white makes it stronger. The 2 liter is a great idea! Thanks for the tip. I made mine out of gum paste (princess pillow cake) but not thinned out. but it took a good week for it to dry even rolled out pretty thin. Can't wait to see your results. Good Luck!!
