Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

This week I celebrated my 33rd birthday and my accomplishments. The last time I celebrated my birthday I was 21years old and since then I have  just let the days pass me by or I have been at work.  The plans for my birthday celebration included a Coconut Birthday Cake...Yummy.  I was so excited and looking forward to that birthday cake moment, and thought about what I would wish for when blowing out the candle after the loving, non-harmonic rendition of  “happy birthday, happy birthday, and happy birthday to you".

So, my 33rd birthday cake came from the supermarket. Yeah, the Safeway Supermarket in the state of Delaware. Not baked at home with love and passion, but baked by a bakery person whose name I will never know. I kept positive and the cake looked somewhat good, and I could not wait to taste it.  Oh, yeah tasting it. So, I being the birthday girl cut the cake, shared it with my favorite people and had my first bite. Wow, it looked better then it tasted.

This has inspired me to learn how to bake http://scrnch.me/jif8c and honor my friends during their celebrations with a cake that they will drool over- visually and also through taste. Wish my luck Cake Decorating Community. I will keep everyone posted.

Carol - just seen your blog post and immediately my heart went out to you.  Such anticipation and then such disappointment - worse than not expecting it in the first place.  I, like June, make all the family celebration cakes and have been known to make my own on occassion.  Not so for the last 3 or 4 years however.  My stepdaughter, bless her heart refuses to let me make a cake for my own birthday dinner, which I share with her Mum as our birthdays are 2 days apart.  She always says - 'nothing like what you could have made Katy' and seems embarrassed by it.  I tell her, it doesn't matter if it's not a Picasso or a Turner.  As far as I am concerned the love that has gone into the offering in the first place is worth everything.  Plain? maybe - darn tasty? definitely!

June, thank you for taking time and posting a comment. I was very grateful for the cake and the family time. Its impressive that you make the cakes for your family functions. I have always told myself that I do not bake...but I am going to change that. Please create an opportunity for yourself to always celebrate all the occasions in your life.

Well

I know it was a "store bought" Grocery cake. But I haven't had a birthday cake since I married my husband..... 35 yrs ago. Not even for my 60th last July/11. So give your family kudos for thinking about you.  I make all the cakes for family functions...SOooooo if I don't make it, aint gonna get one. Didn't have a wedding cake either. Was hoping to have a celebration as my anniversary is Oct 1st.

My neighbour & friend said....  June, if you want a celebration for your Annivesary... you gotta plan it yourself, cause your family.... especially your husband, just DOESN'T GET IT!!!

So you know what..... think I'm gonna do just that!!!   :0)
