I have to make a 14inch base for a wedding cake next week and am rather nervous..my cake size are usually 12inch and 8inch...I hope they choose buttercream over fondant because my fondant has been tearing lately...not sure why?

Excellent tip Sandra thanks from me too!  I just kneaded fondant for a 10" square and found that hard going enough.  Wish I'd seen this before doing that!

You are very welcome.  Yes if you knead the fondant in large amounts is not getting kneading in its entirety.  I knead the little portions and sit my husband in front of me and give him the pieces so he can add them one by one, jijiji.  It works every time.  If you are marry, get your honey to help you with this.

thanks so much for that tip Sandra because I wasnt sure how the hell I was going to mix such a large amount of fondant

that is also probably the reason why my fondant has been tearing lately - because im mixing/kneading it in large amounts

OHHH, so sorry, jijijiji.  I can make a 15" hexagonal no problem but I hate the size 14" so I know the feeling.  Well, you have done it before so I am sure it will come out great.  Just remember to knead that fondant by smaller pieces (the size of your fist) then add them all together as the final piece.  Just in case they ask for fondant covered cake.

heheh sorry man maybe its the way I have written it

It's a 2 tier wedding cake  - 14inch and 12inch.

This is the first 14inch/12inchwedding cake im doing so am nervous. My cake sizes are usually 12/8/6

OHHH, but your question says that you are doing a 12" and 8" cakes, and a 14" base, did I miss understand.  Are you actually doing a 14", 12" and 8" wedding cake?

Sandra its the first time in making a 14inch cake for a wedding and even though I've done it before I'm still feeling nervous

Probably because the person ordering te cake is changing their mind about the design every last minute **sigh**

What are you nervous about Lynette?  Buy the 14" decorated cake board (the silver one), or use 3 cake boards to do one yourself.  I would cover the board with fondant 2 days ahead before placing your 12" cake on it.  The wedding cake will look wonderful.
