Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hello Everyone !!

This month end I am have to do two 9"* 13" cakes for the same group of peoples. Design is entirely upto me . I was thinking that the theme should be same for both the cakes but the 2nd cake will be the extension of the 1st cake. For eg if i would have to do a tom & jerry cake then 1 cake will have tom and the other will have jerry.

I thought of doing a cake that represent 2 seasons. 1st cake represent summer and the 2nd will represent rain.

And i have already sent a beach cake to the same group of people, so i don't want to repeat the theme for summer. And i also can't think of how to catch the essence of "Rain".

Cake will be frosted in SMB with Fondant decorations, I am only 25 cakes old and i  have done the wilton course.

Any suggestions, ideas, images, inspiration are welcome.

Thanks

Madhulika Dev

You can color the gel any color, even blue to look like water. Good luck:)

Hi Madhulika,

Sounds like a fun cake to work up, but rain isn't a season. It's a weather condition.

Could you do summer and fall? A harvest theme would be fantastic.  Pumpkins, mums, acorns, etc. For summer consider doing a picnic theme. Grilled steaks, corn on the cob, with a gingham tablecloth pattern.

Good luck! :D

Hi Madhulika,

How about using a rainbow for the rain cake. You could use clear piping gel and pipe dots onto areas of your cake. These always look wet and make a great watery look (test what the piping gel does to your base colour though - it sometimes bleaches it out a little and works better on paler colours). A pot of gold might be a nice touch too.

Good luck, I'll be looking out for your cakes in the gallery
