Cricut Cake Not so easy

I received my Cricut Cake machine yester day and I have yet to get one flower. I tried using the frosting sheet and they kept tearing. I waisted two sheets. Today I purchased rolled fondant and gumpast. I will try by making my own medium. Wish me luck.

Is anyone else having this problem, if so how did you correct it?

Miss Cricut, she is a little stubborn.

I hope all this is going to take is practice, practice, practice! The pro's make it look so easy. All you have to do is lay out some crisco, slap down some gum paste, feed the mat into the machine, bring the blade in a bit and 'BAM' you have a beautiful butterfly! RIGHT???

As of today I have wasted 2 sheets and I have 1 butterfly to show for it. I am going to be optimistic, after all I can't prove my husband right! He asked me last night when I wanted to toss the machine across the room… Continue

My Passion....

I have enjoyed decorating cakes for about 12 years now. I used to work in a restaurant who was interested in selling decorated cakes. I also love to make my cakes original and different. I recently got to do my very first wedding cake!!!! What a joy. Makes me smile to see them happy with my cake ideas. I would… Continue

Cake Photography Tips

You've made a fabulous cake and now you want to share your photos, but your pictures may not be turning out as well as you'd like. You're not a professional photograhper and don't want to invest in an expensive camera or equipment so what can you do?

With a few small changes you can dramatically improve the quality of your cake photos! Some people will spend a small amount of money to create a little "photo studio" with some special lighting and back grounds but if you're a hobbiest… Continue

Cricket Cake Personal Cutter

I just read somewhere that the Cricket Cake Personal Cutter will be offered on the HSN on April 14th at 12:01 a.m. EST. This is good news as you can break down the payments vs coming up with the money all at once!

HELLO EVERYONE!

Good Morning everyone! I have been lingering on here for the past week or so, but I haven't introduced myself yet, so I'll take the time now on this rainy Friday morning!

I am a stay at home mom of two little girls, Ashlyn, age 5, and Makenna, who will be the big one on April 30th! They are my life! I also have a wonderful husband of almost 8 years. In my spare time, I like to travel, scrapbook, eat (lol), and now cakes!! :) We live in Northeast Ohio, it's a love/hate relationship. The… Continue

My first attempt!

My name is Nadia, and I'm a 32-yr-old business owner in Ontario, Canada. I've just finished Course #1 (intro) of the Wilton Cake Decorating 4-course series, which was held at my local Michael's store. I decided to join the course because I was itching to do something artsy (my business is education-related) and have been watching way too much Cake Boss and Ultimate Cake Off! Since I'm one of those people who looks at stuff and immediately thinks that "I can do that!", I thought I'd put…

Gluten, Wheat & Dairy Free Coconut Cake Recipe

For a while now, I've been searching for a gluten, wheat & dairy free cake recipe. A friend of mine asked if I can come up with a recipe for his daughter "Stella" who is turning 2 and has the allergies listed above. They have tried making the boxed cakes offered at the specialty markets, have gone to bakeries that offer the allergy cakes, but to date, have not liked any of them until… Continue

Interesting offer from potential client

When I dropped off the Hello Kitty and Super Mario cakes at the kids' birthday party at the bowling alley - all heads turned. Almost every person at the bowling alley (a popular kids birthday party location around here) came to have a look. The owner of the bowling alley asked me to make a castle cake that they could sell off of their website for the parties - they'd take a commission of course. I'm excited to try it. I'm not sure on pricing, or what the market will bear around here (we're…

March 11, 2010

I just talked to my niece. Her son's first birthday party is the 20th. She wants me to do a Finding Nemo cake for his party. I'm really excited to try it. Plan on doing a RKT fondant covered Nemo on the top, with all the other characters around the tiers. I can't wait to get started. I can start the gumpaste parts this weekend - I plan on doing some coral and shells. Will do the major characters out of fondant.

On another note - made a pink lemonade cake from scratch yesterday…

new

I am by no means a professional! I used to love when my mom made my birthday cakes when I was a child. I started playing around with making cakes a little over year ago. I really just make them for close friends so I can get some practice! lol I married the man of my dreams this past April in 2009, and I've been a nurse for 5+ years working in the Nurology ICU... Needless to say I have a lot of patients, which helps with the tedious tasks of decorating cakes! My… Continue

Another newbee here!

Good morning everyone, just wanted to drop a line and intro myself.

Found this awesome place and see some familiar faces/names thank goodness. I reside in the wonderful state of VT. (sometimes it's not so wonderful). I am the owner of a custom cake shoppe and just this past year opened a cake studio in town. I do all the baking at home, but needed the separate client consultation space, and found a nice little spot right on main street in Wells River, VT.…
