Comment by Sandra Smiley on May 9, 2015 at 10:42pm: Ladies (Bonnie and Goreti), Platinum Paste is to other gum paste as Kitty Hawk hill is to the Canadian Rockies, they are both elevations, but there is no comparison....I kid you not! My homemade gum paste has always been thin enough to read through, but Platinum Paste will roll so thinly, it literally looks like a piece of skin and is still strong and elastic enough to handle. It also drys so quickly when rolled thin you can shape it with your fingers. You owe it to yourself to try it. I only use it for flower petals which are really thin in nature and use the other stuff for leaves, stamens and thicker petals. You will love it! Oh, and it is no more "breakable" than other gum paste.

Comment by Goreti on May 9, 2015 at 8:20pm: I have not tried Platinum paste yet but it is gumpaste. Platinum is just the brand name. From what I have been told it rolls out super thin which makes the flowers look very realistic.

I do tend to jump from pillar to post, never stick with any one thing too long, but am learning to slow down, and revisit the ones that at least turned out fairly well! lol I liked making the design on the middle tier, didn't know I had it in me... {:o) And, yes, you guys, I really did enjoy making those yellow roses, more so than any I have done before, so, who knows??! lol I hear that the platinum paste is very brittle, and breaks very easily, so why is it better than gumpaste??

These I actually enjoyed making! I usually fret over doing flowers, have not done that many, and don't like waiting for them to dry! lol But the gumpaste turned out perfect this time!! I was able to roll them thin enough to read through for the first time!! Don't know if you all can remember that for back, but it was a darned good feeling, to finally do it right!! And since they were properly thin, they dried in record time, and so I was able to do each rose in about 2 hours total. So I made some, while the others were drying, and it all worked out so well. They do have calyxes, though you can't see them. And I made 3 different sized leaves to go with the different sized roses. Not all shown here. You can't really tell it here, but they are all of a different shade of yellow, airbrushed with the pearl sheen. HOO HAA! I think I finally have the hang of doing roses! lol
