work in progress the other side showing embroidery

This is a dummy cake that I am in the process of working on for the September cake show in our area. so far, this is as far as I have gotten. I plan on adding two more tiers below the bottom of this tier. The top is called brushed embroidery and the bottom tier is called the tufted billow weave technique. I used the air brush to spray super pearl luster on the whole cake.

Your brushed embroidery is just amazing. Did you "hand draw" the flowers, or use a template???

Thank you June...it's one of the cakes I'm working on for our September cake show. by the time I'm done with it, it should be 4 tiers, so I have two to add to the bottom.

Thank you Lorraine. It's done using 2" squares of fondant that are folded on the ends to create a ribbon affect and then starting at the bottom, you measure out about 1-5/8" all around the bottom of the cake and place the tufts within that radius using gum paste glue. You have to make sure that you have pressed the tufts into the fondant underneath solid enough, and you need to make sure that you leave enough room for the rose/button/fondant ball or whatever you put there. The top part is done with royal icing and then you use a fine pointed brush to pull the edges of the icing in towards the flower. Look up brushed embroidery on line for a tutorial, and the other technique is called: tufted billow weave technique. You can find both on line.

Thank you Carla, it is for our cake show in September. Not really a contest, but we do get judged for our work.
