Front view of the Wine Bottel birthday cake.Wine bottle made from gumpaste shaped over a wine bottle and left to dry for several days, then i painted the bottle and dusted it with oyster luster dust once it dried. I used white chocolate shavings to memick the packing styrofoam, added gumpaste grapes and grape leaves. Covered the cake in fondant and used a wood technique for the sides

Ya right!!!!! He! He!
haha - my husbands swears he doesn't have grey hair. He says he's ash blond!
Ya
I here ya. When I tried to make Steve's retirement cake I was making a figure of him out of gumpaste. I didn't have the space I have now. I finally gave up and told him. When he saw the gumpaste figure, he complained I gave him "too much" grey hair...ha! ha! I drew on some more black hair with my food writer pen!!!! I was actually thinking of putting the cake in the Father's day contest, but I already posted the pic here when I 1st joined. And it is a retirement cake, although it fits the theme. I had Steve under a tree, reading a newspaper, with a cup of coffee beside him. It was one of my favorites to did. I would suggest you call your brother to help in the subterfuge.
God June - I wish! Trying to motivate him is like pulling teeth sometimes. I am thinking about asking my brother to invite him down to the New Forest for a couple of days (they bike together)
Good luck with that!! Can't you send him far afield Katy with some crazy request??.......like those mushrooms you have to dig up in the forrest???....ONLY accessable by motorbike??????
OK, so no progress on my wine bottle - he was in all day. Just hoping for some better weather on the bank holidays Monday and Tuesday............
You know what June? This is SO typical of this country lol!
Yes Katy
The CBC is in London for Queen's Jubilee and they reported that your wknd weather will be dodgie. Cool, with possibility of rain for the festivities. :o(
Well - would you believe it? After days of lovely sunny weather, this morning is cloudy, breezy, chilly and spitting with rain, so it looks like the motorcycle outing is off!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - not many more opportunities now, I may just have to ban him from the kitchen. Fat chance of that with all the tea he drinks.
Good Luck Katy, i know what its like trying to make a cake for the hubby's bday without him seeing it. Last year i made a toolset for my hubby, everytime he came near the dinning area i would turn the cake around and put a box in front of it, lol. He loved it, it was especially hard going in his work room looking at his tools as i tried to duplicate them out of modeling chocolate. Please post pics.
