Well at last hubby went out for a few hours on Saturday and I have managed to get the wine bottle for his birthday cake started. A bit stressful, as I didn't know how long he was going to be and felt rushed throughout the whole process! So maybe not as good as it could have been with more time, but it will have to do. Shaped it over a wine bottle on Saturday with green coloured gumpaste, then left it to dry till last night. After he had gone to bed last night, I dusted it over with Forest Green dust mixed with a little rainbow lustre. Painted gold ring and red for foil at the top. Cork is gumpaste painted chestnut brown gel. All I've got to do now is - make the cake, cover that, paint the label, spray bottle with edible lacquer etc etc - no pressure.

Okey Dokey

The freezer technique works like a charm. Can't wait to see the finished cake.  :o)

Cheers June - yes it's fondant with tylose mixed in.  Think it may not have completely dried yet, so we'll wait and see lol!

Is there gumpaste in it??  Another trick that works Katy is to pop it into the freezer for 10-20 min. The fondant/gumpaste freezes, and pops rigt off the object. Then you have some crushed paper or foam to lay the fondant object onto.  Hope this helps.

Ah thanks June.  What I haven't mentioned before is that it is still resting on the real bottle.  It comes off OK, but I'm scared to leave it off in case it collapses - eek!

What a great start, Katy!  This is looking very nice.  I'm with Rima - can't wait to see the whole cake.  Your husband is going to be very pleased!

Ah thanks Rima.  I think my gumpaste was a little dry and there are a couple of hairline fractures, but he won't notice and I'm hoping they will cover over with a label and some lacquer.  I've actually emailed my brother to ask him to call hubby to come to his place for a visit for a couple of days (they motorcycle together)!  The only problem is the darn weather is so bad here, I don't think he will go.  Oh well, whatever.......

Is that all?  LOL you're almost done! Oh Katy, I think it turned out nice. I'll be looking forward to seeing it all put together.
