Hi Deborah,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. this week has been mad!!!!!!!!!!

I used a 6" and a 10" but you could use a 4" and an 8"

Yes it is a craft wire sometimes called florist wire or paper covered wire.

I always add tylo powder to my fondant (only when modeling or decorating with it) to keep their shape (roughly 1 teaspoon to 200gr of paste)

No wire for the 18. I make my own sugar paste and this dries to a solid state. If you wold like the recipe it's on my facebook page, google 'ann pallett bake me a cake' and google should find my fb page for you ( I'm hoping you have an account) click on Photos then on albums and then on recipes and information. the recipe is in there under sugar paste.

The balls are made with fondant with the tylo added, they keep their shape sooooooooooo much better if you use tylo (CMC and gum tragacanth does the same job)

Wishing you lots of luck with your daughters 18th birthday cake. please don't hesitate to ask more questions. Ann

Sorry Ann
I forgot to ask if I can buy something to make the balls as they look so regular in shape you did you do them by hand?
Thanks Deborah

Hi Ann
I am fairly new to cake decorating but I would like to attempt something similar to the 18th birthday cake you posted in 2010 for my daughter's 18th coming up shortly as it looks fabulous!
Please can you answer a few questions for me please?
What size tins did you use?
Also what did you use to put the stars on that are on the top? Was it some sort of wire? Also did you cut the stars out quick thick to hold their shape or did you spray them with something?
Did you also use wire for the 18?
Sorry to ask so many questions but I would like todo a good a job as I can.
Hope you can help me.
Thanks Deborah
