Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

This was the largest wedding cake I have made to date. I made it as a gift for one of the girls who had been in my youth group at church and her family was not financially able to give her a big wedding. I wanted her to feel special. Of course, as you can see, it is kind of a vintage cake with the fountain and stairs. Sheesh! my old wallpaper!!

The 10 oz. is about 1 1/4 cup of Crisco. Thanks for posting the name of her site. I had forgotten it and wanted to get back there and check things out some more.

So... what dose 10 oz of Crisco come out to Linda, one cup... and THANK YOU for posting this!!!

Also, check out Kathleen Lange's web sight "CONFECTIONARY CHALET" I use both her French Vanilla Butter Cream and her Cremora recipe... there was a similar recipe to yours on this web sight and one time (between cakes) had some left over French Vanilla (which I ad two to three table spoons of Cremora to just cause i LOVE the stuff) I mixed the two together... AND IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING ICING EXPERIENCE OF MY WHOLE LIFE... If I do say so myself... Still, I'm always searching...

I still use the same one I have always used, but I do add a little more fat and water to compensate for the carpel tunnel that tries to flare up on occasion.

10 oz. Crisco

1 stick of butter

3 or 4 tablespoons meringue powder (Wilton)

1/2 tsp. salt

2 pounds powdered sugar

1 or 2 tsp. vanilla (I taste and if it needs more I throw more in)

1 tsp. almond

2/3 cup water.

If it seems too thick, add extra water, seems too thin, add more powdered sugar.

It looks pretty dated now, but I'll tell you Tim, it really was a labor of love. Her family had no financial means of giving their daughter a wedding of any kind, so several of us ladies of our church put all of our talents to work and she had the most extravagant wedding of any bride in that church. Someone made her dress, and another did all of her flowers....the food was all prepared by the church....iit was just one of those beautiful moments.......

Linda... I must say... you lived the "Wedding Cake" dream!!!! In all honestly, I wish I could have had at least four pieces of every wedding cake you've put on this sight... And there are a few, I could have eaten the whole darn thing... with NO apologies....

A labor of love, indeed!

hehe I know, isn't it funny to look back at our "old" cakes from the past?
