I use make your own molds all the time..they are great, you must use the seal-dit and safty clay. but i get the silicone at Michaels with my 50% off coupon.  Works like a charm.  I especialy like to use it when I can get a piece of the brides lace applique (if they have it on their gown) and use it in the design of the cake.

I have a knitted piece made of synthetic materials  so no fibres ;) it is not hard to do. but a little, very little bit of crisco on de knitted piece wil help release it when it's dry... and of course, some times some molds wil not come out correctly. I had to learn how to read subjects for moldmaking. lace also works very well. her we have for example at a simple store placemats for under your bord instead of a table cloth and they are made out of plastic and with a lace design ;) very nice to use. but also a real fabric lace works wel.... but when you repeat using the same fabric piece, it could become al little bit softer and so the imprint will no longer be as sharp as your first one.... but that's only with real fabric ;)

I have used the same thing, Carla, but was afraid to do it with lace of any fabrics. I ended up purchasing from:http://www.makeyourownmolds.com/mold-making-materials-products but I haven't tried it out yet. It has a sealer for the fabrics and laces.

Brenda, was it hard to do?

Did you use a real crocheted piece to make the impression when creating the mold? I was wondering if you had any trouble with fibers sticking in the mold when you made it? I've used amazing putty before, but never used it on anything fibrous like material. Thanks for sharing - this is really cool looking!
