Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

My 3rd. cake! 12x12 & 8x8 sq.s, with 6x6 petal. all in strawberry with sugar water brushed on. 3 layers covered with 3 shades of light purple fondant, and decorated with 3 shades of light pink buttercream roses with 2 styles of leaves. Top border is rosettes, 2nd. is shell, and bottom is beads. used tips 14, 16, & 18 for the swirls. Added a few fondant butterflies & a message using the Funky Letter Tappit set. The Angel is a princess plastic/rubber piggy bank, painted all in yellow. I painted the yellow arms in gloves & earings whilte, then covered the yellow dress and headband with white fondant. Added white fondant wings, then Pearl dusted her. Very thick stack of cake boards under her, then a metal cookie sheet under that. This was a very heavy cake.

Hi Joseflin!  Hope you had a good one!  Both sites are listed below.  Hope you get a chance to at least try them.

Here is the first site, and the updated 'Food Grade Mold' recipe is on page 1.

And the updated 'GummyGel' recipe is on this site, on page 2:

Tooth picks?  Spaghetti??  I never thought of using either one!  See, you are right up there using "supports".  I always just stuck my poor excuse for roses on with icing.  Never had a class, but I would like to.  I do plan to try the GummyGel, as well.  I will steal anything you put out there!  I ain't proud :o)

Thank you, thank you, AND thank you!!  That is praise indeed.  I will confess to liking how this one turned out, after that paltry excuse of a cake in the picture they sent me to emulate. HA!  I spent about an hour the day before, making roses, right up until I ran out of all three shades of pink.  And most of them were firm & usable the next day.  So I found a spot on the cake for ALL of the good ones!  I did warn her that there were toothpicks holding the ones on the side up, only because I did not know about using spaghetti back then.  This was before my Wilton classes.

ANDDDD I am SOOO glad that you are trying the mold recipe!  You must try the GummyGel too!  It works even better than the mold recipe. lol  Now if you look at the 2 recipes together, you will see that they are identical in ingredients, just used in differing amounts.  When I saw what they were doing with the 'DecGel', I knew right away that I could do THAT with my existing ingredients!  And both are edible.  Even the molds, but if anyone EVER decides to try a mold, I hope they flavor it well first!!!  LOL!

Bonnie, I just went back and looked at this again and am completely blown away!  These roses are wonderful....even the little leaves are great.  I thought I could make leaves, but they do not look like yours!  Everything about this cake is superb...size, color, execution...everything!  And, YES, Bonnie, you DO have a design.  It may have not been preconceived, but it is obvious that you have a natural talent for design.  It shows in all of your cakes, especially here.  Oh, and I have happily and unashamedly stolen your mold recipe!  I cannot wait to try it.

Here is the edible version of a doll topper.  But, you have to be able to paint!  I just bought the 'Painting Companion' to get started on that! lol
