Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Topsy turvy first birthday cake with a winter theme, with snowflakes, trees and candy striping in pink and blue to match the party theme. Cake was covered in fondant, but all decorations, including the striping, trees, snowflakes, etc were cut from modelling chocolate mixed with fondant. Images were found online, printed out, then cut out of thin cardboard to use as a template to cut with an exacto knife. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but they were brushed with pearl dust to add shimmer. I used generous amounts of royal for the snowdrifts on the cake and the board, as well as tiny snow flurries which may not be too visible in the picture. Once the cakes were frosted and covered in fondant, I cut out wedge shaped pieces in the top of the bottom and second tier, so that while the cakes appear wonky, they are sitting perfectly level one on top of the other. I used bubble tea straws and foam core board for support. 612

I like the looseness of the design-it's fun and comfortable.  This cake looks like you might get a taste treat if you eat it!
