I baked the top of the cake in a glass bowl. The glass sheen is produced by a covering of fondant painted with a combination of royal icing and piping gel. Then I piped the dragonfly and glass pieces with royal icing. The finial is gumpaste. I used some of my antique glassware to make a mold. It produced a very unique cake.

Beautiful!!!    After you paint it  with piping gel, do you let it dry to apply to royal acing so the royal icing doesn't slide off?
