I baked the top of the cake in a glass bowl. The glass sheen is produced by a covering of fondant painted with a combination of royal icing and piping gel. Then I piped the dragonfly and glass pieces with royal icing. The finial is gumpaste. I used some of my antique glassware to make a mold. It produced a very unique cake.

I would have attempted to get the sheen through spraying the whole thing with Edible Lacquer.  Great method.  One to try in the future. jx

I combined piping gel and royal icing to give it more consistency than just the piping gel. Then I let it set and dry before decorating.
