I baked the top of the cake in a glass bowl. The glass sheen is produced by a covering of fondant painted with a combination of royal icing and piping gel. Then I piped the dragonfly and glass pieces with royal icing. The finial is gumpaste. I used some of my antique glassware to make a mold. It produced a very unique cake.

Beautiful cake!! I was looking for a picture as I am making a Tiffany lamp cake right now. I love your glass look. What ratio of piping gel to royal icing did you use? And, how hard does it get? I assume that the gel keeps the royal icing soft enough to cut easily. I would really appreciate your help! Thanks!
Could you have covered the cardboard? It is not the cardboard that detracts, but the design on the cardboard as it detracts from the cake and does not compliment it. Glad you won the other contest as it is an awesome cake.
The cake is beautiful, very original and unique. I really like it. However, for best presentation, I think you should have used a base that was just as unique and original; the old standard cake board just did not do it. I think that probably made a lot of difference in the voting factor.
I agree with Jauquetta about using a different cake board
wow adorable
Incredible!!
Very cool!
It would have been even better if you had put the cake on different board. The one you chose detracts from your wonderful cake! It is very unique! Well done.
