Looks like I need to get a mold for the face since can't do it freehand. Poor little thing is not too pretty.

Yes G

Doing faces is a art. I went to a demo of a famous gumpaste sculpter and was bitterly disappointed. She had a translator as she was from Argentina, that wasn't the problem. I was expecting her to MAKE the model as we watched, and get pointers along the way. She jabbered on about cake customers, and to keep your work surface clean.... blah, blah, blah. What a waste of 2 1/2 hrs. of my time.  But she had brushes, let me tell you G... many $100 a pop. Very, very fine for face work.  Turns out she was a water colourist before she got into cake & gumpaste models, so obviosly, she knows about brushes.  She did say if we wanted fine, excellent detailed work on our models, to spend good money on sable brushes. She has had hers for 25 yrs +. I did learn you always dry your brushes flat, on a clean towel.  If you stand them up to dry, the water trickles past the brush under the collar and can rot the sable. Her one brush was SOOooo fine, I had never seen one that thin. But for you & me... hobbyists.... we wouldn't spend that kind of $$$$. You know, my sis-in-law had the most steady hands, and could really do faces.

I'm going to give it one more try without a mold but I need a finer brush too.  I love the challenge of doing it w/o molds but I've always had trouble with faces--even drawing them.

She is lovely Goreti. There are some good toots out there on doing faces. I bought a set of face molds from Michael's in the clay section. Haven't had a need to use them, or know if they are any good.  I went to a class... oh about 4 yrs ago now, made a girl in a bikini on a blanket. We were provided with face molds, but I can't remember who the maker was??  You know what I would do G. I would go to the dollar store, find a small realistic doll face & make my own mold.
