Diane Shavkin won Best of Show out of 272 entries in a cake show at the Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey in 1982. After that win, she became internationally known for her wood grain and gum paste miniatures scene. She gives credit to "The International Cake Exploration Societe' (ICES)" for the opportunity to display her cake at the ICES Convention in Minnesota in 1982 and, eventually, be recognized internationally for her work.
