Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

September 2011. I did these cakes for a wedding. There was one large 2-tier cake for the wedding party and one individual 8" cake for each of the 35 guest tables (I never realized JUST how small my kitchen was until I did this!) The three cake flavors were: Chocolate cake with peanutbutter cream cheese icing, white cake with oreo buttercream and one layer choclate cake and one layer white cake with white buttercream. All were finished with fondant and chocolate seashells.

Yes, they all enjoyed it and the flavors were a surprise...there was a mix of three...I was told that some guests went table to table to sample all three!  hehehe....  And yes, I too hope it's not a growing trend...kind of takes some of the "majestic glory" out of the main cake....but hey, it's what the bride wanted, right?

Wooooow! How did I miss this picture.....I'm with Goreti and June on this one. I'm blown away! I don't know that I would ever be capable of taking on an undertaking such as this magnitude. I sure hope this isn't the growing trend. I too am just a hobby baker and have no desire to do it as a full time job. June and Goreti hit it on the nose, I'd end up hating it instead of loving it. You did an amazing job, and I'll bet it was fun for each table to share their own cake.

Tee hee Laura - me too!  Trying out cake balls in chocolate cups (maybe), for a friend's birthday.  He's a chocoholic too.

You are all too kind...but THANK YOU!  Today I am trying my hand at cake pops (a gift for my mother in law for Mother's day - the lady who has everything but LOVES chocolate!)  I'll post picutures when I am done (if they turn out)

Oh my Goreti
You have put into words exactly how I feel. The lady who got me started years ago had said if you want love decorating, keep it as a hobby, otherwise you will hate it. For me, she was right. I concur about Laura's talent.

Just imagine the exercise and how good your arms will look this summer.  lol  I know what you mean about doing it all the time.  I'm nowhere near your skill level but I do love to decorate only because I don't do it often.  If I had to do it all the time, I know I would end up hating it.

Thank you!  I can still have fun with it because I don't do it often...if it was something I did all the time I would go insane!  It was a LOT of fondant to roll....

With all this, I forgot to tell you that I think you did a great job.

"Oh well, I really did have fun with it"--that statement has me worried about your sanity  lol

HAHAHA...the problem was, I did NOT sign on for the 35 individual cakes...the bride called me and changed her order about 4 weeks before the wedding....what the heck??  Oh well, I really did have fun with it and commandeered my husband to help me deliver using both of our vehicles...thank goodness it was only a few miles from our home!
