Hey, you have a Mike, too - they are the best, aren't they!

You can send a little of the rain our way, if you like.  It has gotten dry the last few weeks and we need the rain. Sorry you guys (would have said y'all, but only Katy would understand :o) ) couldn't swim but glad the food was delicious!

We ended up eating inside, it just will not quit raining for very long.  Jordan wanted to swim, but she heard rumbling, and that put an end to that.  She is coming here tomorrow!  And her brother next Monday.  I have not been able to swim yesterday, or today, cloudy, and raining on & off.  Miserable weather.  I am used to swimming every afternoon!  The ribs & chicken were terrific.  Mikes likes to smoke his ribs.  And his turkey on Thanksgiving.

And, as for my opinion, You will definitely be getting more of that!!  No sweat!  Again, for what it's worth!! lol

LOL!  I'm getting up off of the floor now.  You crack me up!  Everything you have done so far, that I have seen, has been superb, IMO, for what it's worth.  I'm going to look up the orchids as soon as I get a moment. lol  On my way to a BBQ at my son's place in a few minutes.

Becky, I would be pleased to win anything, but I really just want to participate with other designers/decorators and see pretty cakes.  I also want to learn from others. I think the very nature of a competition pushes you beyond your comfort zone and forces you to do your very best.  Don't be afraid to enter (although I am terrified of embarrassing myself).....do it for the fun and new friends you will surely meet.  I will let you know if it kills me :o)

Yes, my dear, they do.  Macaws are native to Central and South America, Birds of Paradise are native to South Africa and South America.  I am trying to use flowers that come from the same region as the birds.  I have also made yellow and red lilies and white moth orchids.  Good thing I told you in advance what they are so you won't be embarrassed because you can't identify them.  Again, it is my first attempt and they are not exactly perfect lol.

Sandra, in nature, do these birds, AND the birds of paradise, co-exit?   Because if they do, then Mother Nature rules! lol

Wow good luck on the fair! I have thought about entering a contest but there are so many people that decorate cakes so excellently , don't think I'd have a chance! You definitely would with these birds!

Thank you, Becky!  You are so sweet :o)

No, I just wanted to try making birds.  I do intend to use the topper for an entry in the Tennessee State Fair.  I am making tropical flowers and foliage for the rest of the cake decorations.  The fair entries are September 5th.  I am really going out on a limb here because I have never even seen a cake competition except on line.

I made a wire armature and covered it with modeling chocolate.  Sculpted the chocolate to the shape of the birds, then covered with gum paste feathers.  There are 4 million and 16 feathers.  I counted!

Were they for a cake? Fondant? Did someone order? These are unbelievable!
