Well, the Scarlet Macaws Cake made it to the fair without any problems. Mike carried the birds separately and I added them on site.

Thanks! Yes, it did, Becky. I worked on it off and on (mostly on) for three months. I learned so much, though. Almost everything was a first. My favorite thing is the spray of orchids on top.
LOL, Katy! That just about says it all!
Thank you, June! All of the hugs I have received from you guys helps a lot, believe me! And, bless his heart, Mike was with me and gave me a hug, too.
I have about decided, since I do not get orders for cakes and I do not have enough friends and family to satisfy my caking needs (and Mike and I can surely not eat that much cake), to concentrate on big, elaborate, competition cakes. I can't think of a better way to push myself to learn new skills. I think right here and now, if I plan to do sugar art, I best be willing and able to accept breakage and loss since that is the nature of the medium.
Again, I very much appreciate everyone's kind words because my heart was a little sore. It's just about well now :o)
That was my reaction exactly, Goreti. Like I said, standing there with my mouth hanging open...speechless. Oh well, if I expected permanency, I would be using clay instead of sugar. But I just love the sugar arts!
Oh Sandra, I cannot even imagine how you must have felt when you saw it. It must have taken a few moments to even comprehend what your eyes were seeing.
