Well, the Scarlet Macaws Cake made it to the fair without any problems. Mike carried the birds separately and I added them on site.

Yes, he did, Katy.  And they (the folks working the fair) seems so pleased to have a cake like this in their show.

I take your point Sandra, yes.  It was not a cake show, so how could they know?  I dare say he felt pretty bad too.

I have to admit, Katy, that I wanted to cry when I saw it looking like hot water had been poured over it.  I think I must have been standing there with my mouth hanging wide open because the poor guy (who was working the division) started to explain that they didn't know what happened to it.  They took special care and stored it in the refrigerator every night.  How could I be mad at him?  Bless his heart, he and the others were trying to protect it.  They are not cake people, just fair volunteers.  It does make me sad, though, because very few people ever saw it in one piece.

omg Sandra!  I'm so sorry to read this - I don't know how you are managing to be so philosophical about it.  I would be devastated after all that hard work.  You would have thought they would know better!

Thank you, Denise.  That is the good think about creating works of art in sugar or whatever medium, if you did it once, if you want to, you can do it again :o)  I did this for the experience and just for the fun of it and I got both, so I am OK.........oh, and a little blue ribbon.
