Scarlet Macaw Cake with most of flowers added...less macaws, of course. Thinking of adding a couple more birds of paradise to the left side and three small orchids on the front right corner. Not yet decided.

WONDERFUL!!!  Problem solved!

It is not too late, Katy, and I realized the same thing.  It is hard enough to move this heavy thing without damaging the fondant which is on the flat surface of the cake board.  I just got back from Walmart where I bought a coarse, almost burlap like ribbon.  It is typical burlap color with a few dark flicks.  Looks pretty good with the rest of the cake.

YES, thanks Katy!  If all else fails, buy the appropriate material & make your own ribbon!  TA-da!  It is always easier coming from MY end, than on YOURS! lol

Hope this isn't too late Sandra, but I wouldn't add fondant to the edges if I were you.  It will tear, crumple, shift etc everytime you pick the board up.  'Ribbon' of some sort is the best way to go imo.  Perhaps you can get a strip of hessian or a ribbon with some kind of grain effect on it?

It's countdown time!  Only 5 days to go.  Yes, I know you are not worried, and you shouldn't be, your 'cake' is perfect!

So Gail & I are doing it for you! lol

You know,Bpnnie, I can't paint it, but maybe put a very thin strip of fondant over it.  The crinkles would definitely show through.

I have actually been trying to find a burlap strip - you know, great minds....

Maybe a strip of burlap, tinted with this & that? lol  Thinking out loud here.  Again! lol
