Mere moments Katy.  As the steam hits the flower it almost forms a liquid film - so I held them over on their sticks and twirled them over the steam - I would say 10 seconds per bloom?  Really it is quick but the colours were just fabulous - I do have a steamer that somebody gave me but it spits out drops of water so I will see if there is any adjusting I can do to help with that - otherwise a steam iron standing up and then press the button that releases steam?  Just try one and give it a go (I build my blooms on to a skewer if I am going to put them in to a cake - and because of the weight of these peonies it was a good idea.  That way I also had a good firm grip to hold on as I twirled the flower over the kettle steam - hope that makes sense?)

So that really works then Mandy?  How long do you steam them for?  I'm terrified to try it!

June, I just held them over the kettle (burnt my finger a bit - but all in the name of making beautiful cakes) :-)

Yes, you did do the peonies justice Mandy. I have a similar type of peonie in my backyard. If it wasn't winter here, I would have taken a pic & sent it to you. They are so pretty, but each bloom only lasts about 5-7 days. I have had 2 steamers, both broke . :0(. One after a year, one after 2 mnths, just after the warranty. They weren't super expensive, but not cheap. Very disappointing. Never bought another one.

Leaves and Peonies from sugarpaste, baby's breath are real - very much doubt if I could reproduce them with much success :-) My first time steaming flowers and I cannot believe the difference - the flowers just popped! And considering I have never even set eyes on a peonie in my life (not a common flower in this part of the world) I trust I did them justice :-) Thanks all for the thumbs up x
