For my husband's 70th Birthday. Bottom tier is Chocolate Devil's Food sandwiched with fudge sauce and vanilla fudge butter icing. Words around the bottom read 'Rock Around The Clock'. Top tier is carrot cake sandwiched with cream cheese icing. Clock is set to 10 to 7 to try to indicate 70. Centre of the clock is a small record. Two electric guitars copied from his Fender Stratocaster. Accents made from black Mexican Modelling Paste and the cake is covered in white fondant. Cake board covered in black Satinice to represent a vinyl LP (anyone remember those?) and stamped with musical notes, rock n roll song titles and a few stars.

Thank you so much Joseflin. I cut the figures with the patchwork cutter set of jive dancers. But even so, they were hard to get a good edge on. I hate working with black gumpaste/fondant/modelling paste - it always gets so sticky and gooey.
I do not envy you the life size replica - cutting an electric guitar is one thing, but to make it life size is way more of a challenge. You are going to have to make several sheet cakes and join them together. If you have access to his guitar, I suggest you get some large sheets of paper, stick them together, draw around the guitar and make yourself a template. This you can then cut into the same sizes as your sheet cakes and use each piece to shape each cake. Then join them with buttercream and make sure you give them all a solid crumb coat all over before you start trying to cover in fondant. That part I REALLY don't envy you. If you need tips and advice, try posting a discussion on the main forum and see what other members come up with. Good luck.
Great cake Katy ! The figures must have been quite difficult to cut ! My son’s birthday is coming up and he asked me to make him a life-size replica of his electric guitar! This is probably be my greatest challenge so far ... I just wouldn’t know how to begin it !!
