Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Made this one this morning for my best friend's birthday. She had never had red velvet so that is what she ordered. I split the layers so that there are 4. Filled with the cooked flour/milk/sugar/butter icing and also did all of the decorations with the same icing.

Well it is 99.99% done. I cut out the lettters to go on the "45" record, which will sit on top of the dummy top tier. I'm just too tired to finish. Isn't due till Sunday aft.  Funny I had this idea in my head, I even did a sketch, which I usually don't, but when I did it...yuck.  Steve said what I was thinking......less is more. That's way I took stuff off & re-did. Semi happy with it now.

Will probably assemble tomorrow, take a pic & post.

June, did you get it done and posted?

Another amazing cake!!! Your roses are beautiful Linda. Perfect piping as always. I just literally sat down after doing my cake. Started at 9.30 this morn. Was done, looked at it, thought, nope.....too much on their. Ripped stuff off. Started over. Like you, was critical of my work.

Ah thanks - you're a dish.

Katy there is no way that I would ever say you are at the bottom of the pile! I wouldn't even begin to try making an Eiffel tower cake! You've put out a lot of very nice pieces! One thing I love about this site, is that you don't have to be a world renowned cake artist to interact with other members. We are just a great bunch of people who happen to love cakes and love talking about them and love sharing with others our own hits and misses! lol

Yes I do know exactly what you mean!  I feel like that almost every time I make something.  Once in a while I think - yes, this time you've got it right.  But for the most part I just think - what a mess!  My consolation is that no-one else in my circle of family and friends would even THINK of doing what I do, so I'm King of the Mountain there.  But on this site I am most definitely bottom of the pile haha!

Thank you Katy. You know how you get something in your head and you want so badly to be able to make it and it just doesn't seem to come together? Well, that is how I am with these stupid gum paste flowers! I've got DVDs up the old wazzoo of very reputable instructors and for some reason, it just is a chore to me to make them! I read in one of June's posts just recently that if you go to an ICES convention or whatever it's called, you can buy boxes of premade gum paste flowers, and if I could find them, I'd just buy them-for the right price, that is.

Bit late coming in on this one, but I just had to comment.  Linda, you are way too hard on yourself girl!  If I had half your talent, I would be deliriously happy.  These roses are just lovely - beautiful colour, beautiful shape.
