Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

1st attempt. I was 3/4 the way complete when the bottom tier started crashing! Arggg... I didn't even finish piping or frosting. I'm gonna do it again with fondant instead of buttercream. My guess is it will stay intact with fondant support. Suggestions...

LOL! I DID dowel it but it didn't matter. This was a disaster.  It was my first tall cake - I didn't use a firm cake so it started falling apart from the bottom.  I didn't even finish the top layer after that. I think my technique was good and maybe if I'd used fondant it would have held, but...  The cake was huge and my family absolutely loved it (and so did my coworkers!).  Next time I'm sure I'll get it right, since my level of experience has grown.

I love your design!  Did you put support dowels inside?  Looking forward to seeing your fondant version!  :^D
