lol Steve - I seriously love your sense of humour!  By the way - do you have a Facebook page or a website?

Sandra- I've delivered cakes to Brentwood, south of Nashville, and with the Beverly Hills homes there is obviously BIG $$$ there. But I am about an hour away-I charge $150 to deliver there. But you're right I should get my stuff out there more.

Katy- We will see soon I hope...I don't want anyones soul though.....just some of their hard earned cash LOL!

Steve, you are not that far from Nashville, a relatively wealthy city.  Have you considered trying to tap into the country music set?  The possibilities are wide open - they have the money and the imagination.  Alan Jackson, Louise Mandrall and Don Williams, for instance, live in Ashland City, less than 100 miles from you.  If you can catch their attention, you could charge a reasonable rate.

I'm sure you could.  Many people would sell their soul to be able to do what you do!

I do earn my living from cake.......barely lol......and love it if I'm not too busy. But I could probably earn alot more selling my tools/techniques. I see it all the time with the "TV" cake people.....doing seminars and "cake cruises" and making $400 a head with 20-30 people in the class.

Everything said is true, I'm sure.  You can't cut off your nose to spite your face (as my mother was used to saying!).  I guess the bottom line is - do you love what you do?  are you making a living of sorts out of it?  Are you wanting to get rich?  Answers need to be yes, yes and no!  lol

One thing to consider is that many decorators here use fondant on wedding cakes....and we do charge $4.50 for fondant....but our buttercream is so perfect that 95% of our wedding cakes are buttercream.

Many brides who come to us for consults say that other decorators told them-"If you want a smooth cake you have to get fondant!" And it seems these days most girls don't even know(or care about) the difference. ....they'd rather spend any extra $$$ on themselves...ie dress, honeymoon, venue etc....

I think the secret is to gather a higher class of client lol..........and higher prices do drive away the cheapskates. Just can't drive too many away too fast with higher prices I guess......we're artists and need to be businessmen!
