Practice cake using the billowing technique

This is just a little dinky dummy cake that I wanted to try my hand with the billowing technique. I used the smallest foam circles that I could find in the floral section of our craft store. It is covered in fondant, then I cut squares out of the smallest cutter I have for the top cake, and then used the next smallest cutter for the bottom, pinching the ends and pressing them into the fondant. The top tier has edible sugar pearls that I placed between each billow, and the bottom art balls I rolled from fondant. The anemones are made from gum paste. Thanks for looking!

This is the cutest! What a great technique and I love the anemones, and that the cake goes so well with the cake stand.

Hmmm...I think you would have to have the cake covered in fondant first in order for those little billows to stay put. As it was, I had to hold mine in place for a few seconds since the weight of the billow seemed to pull it down. You could try it and see what happens. I can't wait to see the results of everyone that is going to try it out.  I don't always get on every day, so if anyone is going to give it a shot, let me know!! I love seeing other peoples take. It is inspiring.

Thank you Linda, something new to try.  You have given me the inspiration to go ahead.  Can we do this on a butter cream covered cake?

Monica, this is the one that I have seen-after the fact. I did not have a tutorial and had to wing it from what it looked like what they did, but this one is pretty close to how I did my cake. They started at the bottom and worked up, and I started at the top and worked down. They used a ribbon cutter, and I used a square cutter.http://thejoyofcake.shutterfly.com/tutorials
