I'll have to look into the modeling chocolate one of these days.

Goreti, Shawna McGreevy has a fabulous step-by-step picture tutorial on making modeling chocolate.  I've never had a booboo since I started using it.

June, modeling chocolate is really different from fondant and gum paste.  The first time I used it, I went the 50/50 route, too, but since I've have learned the proper way to handle it, I use straight chocolate.  When it gets too soft, you just have to back off for a minute and let it cool down.  It literally only takes a minute.  I love the stuff.

I've made white and dark modeling chocolate, used for covering rct's, roses. But never made whole figure with it, I find too soft. I have done 50/50 m/choc & fondant, that worked for me.

Sandra, I haven't tried modelling chocolate yet.  I trying making it once but didn't have a good result.  Never tried again.  Gotta give a go one of these days.

Thanks June.  I ended going to the $1 store for some of those.  That is what finally helped with the drying.

Super cute cake Goreti. Just love the Dino coming out of the cake!! It's awful having issues with your fondant/ gumpaste. If you add too much tylose..then you get cracking. I dry my figures in the oven with the light on. I also bought those little boxes of beads from the $1 store, they absorb moisture. Linda told me about them years ago. Place your figure in a box, put the beads beside it. Dries in 24-48 hrs.

Very clever save with the dragon!  He looks fabulous flying out of the cake.  Have you ever tried modeling chocolate?  I think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread and it tastes good too.

Thanks Sandra but these were a nightmare.  Don't know if it was the weather because it was unusually hot and humid here or I got a bad batch of gumpaste.  They would not dry.  The dragon was terrible so I just saved the head and wafer paper wings and decided to just do 1/2 the body and make it look like he is coming out of the cake.  Didn't have much time to do the figures which was probably part of the problem.
