Stained glass design. I must have been crazy to try this one out. Stickiest mess I have ever worked with. Bottom tier is 12", middle tier is 8". and top tier is 5". All tiers are covered in fondant, then black royal icing was used to do all of the outline work to give it a raised design, then I used piping gel to fill in all of the 'glass' areas. Took me 3 days to finish. Thanks for looking!

Submitted this cake at our confection sugar art fair and this one got a red ribbon. My lines on the middle tier were not straight enough. I'm still a happy camper! It was the first time I had ever tried this technique.

You learn from me?! Don't you mean me learn from You?? lol Who knows if I am doing anything actually right. It's just a hit and miss kind of thing, Ruby. I guess I could say I have a 'degree; from U.H.K. (University of Hard Knocks) and another 'degree' from W.W.I.K. (Wide World of Internet Knowledge). Haha!

Debra, that is quite a compliment. I've never done stained glass before so I really don't know how colors are chosen etc.

Thank you both Paula and Debra.

I used to do stained glass and think you knocked it out of the ball park with your selection of colors and the variations of those colors to replicate actual stained glass.  Tiffany would be proud of you.  Congratulations..................Debra Jones

Kathy, the stickiness was from the brushes that I used to paint the gel on with. Once it had set up some, the stickiness on the cake itself wasn't so bad. I think the fondant helped to soak up any moisture. Just the brushes, as the gel got all over the part where you hold the brush, so I was constantly pulling my finger away to un-stick it. It also took forever to wash that gel out of those brushes. At least I was smart enough to place the colors in a watercolor pallet. That helped tremendously. Kathy and Salpie, thank you for your kind words.
