I always used butter, Betty, but I didn't add the touch of Crisco and I wasn't beating the butter/Crisco long enough either.  I did just as you said, set the mixer on low and went about my business for about 10 minutes.  Wow, what a difference!  THANKS, Queen Betty!

See Sandra , if you put enough of BUTTER in it (gotta be butter), beat it to make it creamy and American butter cream can be good and tasty.:))

Yes, June, and the ratio is so small that the taste was not compromised at all.  This will be my "go to" buttercream from now on.

Oh, by the way, Betty, I used your buttercream recipe for this cake and it was fabulous...so creamy and so much more workable.  Who knew a little daub of Crisco could do such wonders!  After staring at your cakes for the past year and a half, I decided that I have been making my buttercream too thick, so I made it a bit thinner this time too.  It was so responsive that it made me want to pipe!

Betty, I will admit they turned out a lot cuter than I expected :o)

Thank you so much, Goreti, Betty, Katy and June!!  Your are all so sweet and supportive :o)  Betty, in the background are a second sheep, a second elephant and a pair of (what is supposed to be) hedgehogs (that look more like miniature corn on the cob - lol).
