Diane... that proves how AMAZING you are... All that stuff on the side of the "white" fondant "round" cake... that's all from or inspired by the Lambeth School... string work... and yours is JUST BEAUTIFUL....

Tim, you're such a sweetheart!! Thank you for your wonderful compliments!!! Actually I didn't do any Lambeth on this cake but I'd love to try it some time. You do such beautiful Lambeth, I need to get some pointers from the pro!!!

I tried taking pictures of this at the show and I must say I could not find a picture that did this cake justice! You did such an amazing job! A very well deserved win and definitely something to aspire to!

Thank you! I used gumpaste. It was formed around a concave styrofoam piece. I did two halves independently and hoped and prayed that I accurately measured all of the places where I did the cut-outs/ribbon holes on the first side in order for the second half to match up! (I could only do one side at a time). I had to quickly do the cutouts while it was on the styrofoam before the gumpaste started drying. The cutouts change and get "wrinkled" when placed on the form if they're done while still on the table. It was a daunting task but I'm SO happy with the way it turned out. It took several tries for me to be happy with each half. The gumpaste wanted to stretch with gravity because I had to lay the styrofoam on it's side and was quite frustrating! haha When everything was dry, I put the two pieces together. There are "pearl buttons" down the back where I attached the two halves. I think I cried happy tears when I finally put the two together! I had to do some "water sanding" but I was pretty happy with the outcome. I've never seen anything done like this before, so I'm thrilled!

Beautiful! What did you make the corset out of? Pastillage? Gumpaste?
