My youngest brother & his bride-to-be bestowed upon me the honor of making their wedding cake. I had never made a wedding cake before & was terrified of ruining it. Couldn't make a rose to save my soul. Even told my brother he wasn't getting any flowers on his cake & sweetheart that he was & still is, said to me "You're making this cake for me because you love me and because you're doing it out of love, it will be perfect." When I put the final finishing touches on that cake I sat there & cried like a blubbering fool. Everyone asked me what i was crying for & I told them "Because I didn't think I could do it & I DID!!" Oh the memories...SIGH!! They are still very happily married.

I still have my separators, too, and I still can't make buttercream or royal rose either! I sure am glad someone invented gum paste because I can do a lot better with it than I can a piping bag!
Thanks Sandra. Believe it or not I still have those tier separators & the cherubs that clipped onto them. And I still can't make a rose to save my soul either...lol. I really haven't had the need to as it seems I mostly specialize in children's bday cakes.
This cake is a stunning first wedding cake. What a coincidence - my step daughter married in 1986, too, and I made her wedding cake. I used the same tier separators that you used. Her cake was lavender with white trim. My roses weren't worth a hoot either, but none of us really realized it at the time, so we were happy with it. Your brothers sounds like a true sweetheart :o)
